Writers know the road to publication can be fraught with potholes. From errors with writing mechanics to typos. As if that wasn’t enough to worry about, errors in fact checking and mistakes made during the submission process can land your work in the wrong pile. Nancy Sakaduski, editor of Cat & Mouse Press, will share with us the Common Errors Writers Make and How to Prevent Them.
Nancy Sakaduski is an award-winning writer, editor, and owner of Cat & Mouse Press in Lewes, Delaware publishing books of regional interest. She runs the Rehoboth Beach Reads Short Story Contest, and produces Writing is a Shore Thing, a curated online newspaper for writers. Nancy has a BA in Communications from the University of Maryland and an MBA from Loyola University (Baltimore).
Nancy formed Cat & Mouse Press in 2012 to support local writers and produce books and other materials that are fun, entertaining, and of particular interest to residents of, and visitors to, the Delmarva region. Cat & Mouse Press currently has 22 books in print and several more in production.
Nancy has authored 24 published books. One of her children’s books, Passport to History: Ancient Greece, was named best social studies book by the Society of School Librarians International, and “Mapping the Mind,” which appeared in Odyssey magazine, won the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators Award for Nonfiction. Three books she edited, The Beach House, Beach Nights, and Sandy Shorts, and one book she authored, The Mermaid in Rehoboth Bay, won national first-place awards from the National Federation of Press Women. She has also won numerous state-level awards.
Cat & Mouse Press’s largest project to date, the annual Rehoboth Beach Reads Short Story Contest, invites area writers to submit stories that fit the year’s theme. Winning stories are published in a book, and authors of the top stories receive cash prizes. Entries are accepted each year between March 1 and July 1. Submission information and guidelines are available on the website at www.catandmousepress.com.
