New authors know their tales are good. The question is, how long can they make the reader wait before showing them the proof? Looking at some great first lines in famous novels, Will Hahn demonstrates the choices available and what can be accomplished right in the story’s first sentence.
Come see how some of the masters have opened their classic stories, then reflect on the range of objectives you could achieve in that first line. You can also judge how well Will did in his own, somewhat less-famous tales!

Will Hahn is the Chronicler of the Lands of Hope tales, an epic fantasy world-setting bursting with a lifetime of adventure. Will has been in love with heroic tales since age four, when his father read him the Lays of Ancient Rome and the Tales of King Arthur. He has taught Ancient-Medieval History for years, but the line between this world and others has always been thin; the far reaches of fantasy, like the distant past, still bring him face to face with people like us, who have choices to make.

Will is also a professional audiobook narrator for his own and other authors’ tales.

Will has come to love all manner of stories, whether factual or not, about remarkable people with choices to make. All such stories become real to him, and he loves to make them come alive for others. Will lives and works from his home in Newark Delaware, together with a wife more lovely than he can describe, a daughter more miraculous than she knows, and cats more numerous than you would readily believe.
