After her second novel went out of print, Camille DeAngelis found herself souring in a mix of corrosive emotions—until she realized the problem wasn’t her publisher’s lack of support, but her own mindset. The result was Life Without Envy: Ego Management for Creative People, a practical guide to dealing with feelings of jealousy, frustration, and inadequacy to create a happy life regardless of how your writing career is (or isn’t) going.

In this session, Camille will share the sequence of epiphanies that inspired the book (the earliest of which occurred at the Mount Laurel Library!), offering candid and actionable advice on:

—defining success on your own terms (quitting the comparison game once and for all)
—building the sense of self worth and resilience you need to carry on in the face of rejection and other setbacks
—shifting your focus from “proving yourself” to making a contribution
—and taking more pleasure out of your writing practice.

We’ll complete two quick writing exercises designed to spark powerful paradigm shifts in the way we see ourselves and our creative potential, with a Q&A round to follow. Come prepared with a pen & paper, if you’re old school.

Camille is also giving away two copies of her most recent books, Moon Ireland (3rd edition) and A Bright Clean Mind: Veganism for Creative Transformation.

**** In preparation to the presentation, Camille would love some responses to the following questions. Please respond in the comments section by 5 PM 6/17) ****

—What’s the warmest, most encouraging thing anyone has ever said to you about your writing (or your creative ability in general)?
—What aspect of your writing practice brings you the greatest sense of fulfillment?
